Description
Under general supervision, in connection with the operation of an indoor or outdoor municipal skating rink of the type indicated by the class title, to maintain order among skaters, perform routine work involving contacts with the public, perform manual tasks necessary for the operation of the public service enterprise, and to perform related work as required.
Examples of Duties
Patrol the rink on skates to promote the orderly movement of skaters.
Circulate among skaters to prevent improper skating or other activity, and to protect property.
Warn persons who fail to follow the rules and report to supervisor if behavior becomes disruptive or unsafe.
As requested, give basic skating instruction, and assist participants in adjusting skates.
Referee and keep score at "in-house" ice hockey games.
Check shoes, clothing, and valuables.
Maintain order in locker rooms.
Monitor all public session skating events both on and off the ice.
Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena area including sweeping, cleaning and other custodial duties.
Assist in directing the public on toboggan slides if at ice rink adjacent to winter sports area.
Provide excellent customer service and ensure that all policies are properly implemented.
During public skating, issue equipment and staff the equipment counters.
Supervise skating to ensure safe operations and respond to the needs of user groups.
Administer first-aid as and perform related work as required.
Ensure the overall cleanliness of the arena.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
- High school diploma or G.E.D. (General Education Development).
Qualifications (preferred):
Familiarity with the rules and regulations of skating games, sports, and ice hockey at ice rink.
One (1) year of experience in public service or other activities involving contacts.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
