GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Manager of General Accounting - HAP (Health Alliance Plan) is a results-driven leader that plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our organization. As a leader, you will oversee the monthly close process and the production of accurate and timely financial statements. With a strong grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Statements of Accounting Principles (SSAP), you will be a key resource to the Director of Financial Reporting and Operations, executing a well-controlled and timely financial close process. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safeguard the assets of the corporation and its subsidiaries from fraud, abuse, or waste through the execution of appropriate control mechanisms.
Manage the accounting team and oversee daily operations for multiple corporations.
Oversee the monthly and annual financial statements for the corporation and its subsidiaries (including the preparation of financial reporting packages to the Parent/HFH).
Oversee quarterly and annual financial reporting filings to regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles.
Oversee balance sheet and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
Review and prepare journal entries, ensuring adherence to accounting policies and proper documentation standards.
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of tax and regulatory filings.
Ensure that accounting process and financial close-related procedures are well documented.
Maintain strong internal controls and support the continuous improvement of financial processes.
Lead training/development and write performance reviews for all employees reporting directly to this position, ensuring the consistent and equitable application of all corporate personnel policies and procedures throughout all areas of responsibility.
Support and encourage a collaborative team culture, partnering with other departments and functions.
Collaborate with external auditors to support audit processes and provide documentation during the year-end audit process.
Set continuous improvement priorities for yourself and your team.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Reporting and Operations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in accounting required. Master's degree in accounting, preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
At least 2 years leading accounting teams.
Health insurance financial reporting experience preferred.
Comprehensive GAAP and SSAP knowledge for health insurance preferred.
Experience using Power BI is a plus.
Experience using Blackline, Workiva, and other financial close optimization tools is a plus.
Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Forward thinking and solution driven with a process improvement mentality.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES PREFERRED:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), active, preferred.
