Oriental rug restoration duties include repairing damaged foundation fibers, reweaving holes, patching worn areas, mending fringe, color correction, and carefully addressing stains, all while preserving the rug's original design and structure using specialized techniques to match the existing weave and color palette as closely as possible:
- Repair broken or damaged warp and weft threads to stabilize the rug's structure.
- Repair holes by using wool threads that closely match the original rug. Weave new knots to fill in holes, maintaining the original rug pattern and density.
- Mend frayed or damaged fringe by overcasting or re-tying knots to ensure the edges are secure and aesthetically pleasing.
- Re-dye rugs specific areas to restore the original color palette.
Position Minimum Requirements:
24 as a handmade oriental rug restoration Specialist or similar job title.
24 Months of experience in restoration of handmade oriental rugs should include:
- Experience in identifying the specific origin and weave of rugs to selecting the appropriate restoration techniques.
- Ability to Source wool or silk threads that closely match the rug's original fibers.
- Repairing broken or damaged warp and weft threads to stabilize the rug's structure.
- Repairing holes by using wool threads that closely match the original rug and weaving new knots to fill in holes while maintaining the original rug pattern and density.
- Mending frayed or damaged fringe by overcasting, overedging or re-tying knots to ensure the edges are secure and aesthetically pleasing.
- Re-dye rugs specific areas to restore the original color palette.
