Direct Care Worker
Direct Care staff provide interaction, guidance, and supervision to the residents with brain or spinal cord injuries by performing a variety of tasks in the areas of personal care, rehabilitative care, and crisis management. Direct Care staff members report to the Shift Supervisor and/or the Staffing Coordinator.

Qualifications
- Must be good with people, compassionate, a good communicator, and able to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the people we serve.
- Must be able to work well with others as part of a team.
- Must be able to take initiative to complete assigned duties without direct supervision and handle changing and emergency situations.
- Must provide proof of High School diploma, GED, or newest certificate of education.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds of freestanding weight, be in good physical condition with no physical limitations that would prevent perform the essential duties of this position.
- Must pass a physical exam with drug screen, and TB test.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Must pass a criminal history and personal background check.

NOTE: Public Act 29 of 2006, prohibits the hiring of employees who have direct access of residents, their property, medical records, or financial information for 15 years with a felony conviction after completion of sentence and 1-10 years for a misdemeanor depending on the type of offense.
Job Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- All aspects of personal care (toileting, showering, oral care, personal care, nail care, vital signs, and weights).
- Medication administration (oral, per gastric tube, wound dressing changes, finger stick blood sugars, tube feedings, tracheostomy care, ensure rehab programs are being done daily).
- One and two person transfers including the use of mechanical lifts.
- Provide social interaction to residents.
- Light housekeeping and laundry.
- Some meal preparation, special diet orders.
- Required computerized documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records and personal information according to HIPPA (State and Federal) guidelines.
- Restock resident supplies as needed.
- Maintain tidy and organized supply storage.
Community Involvement
- Assist residents in scheduling and attending person-centered activities in the community.
- Provide opportunities for activities in various setting and transportation as needed.
- Attend appointments and outings with residents.
- Demonstrate the importance of community involvement, social interactions, and maintaining positive relationships.

- Implement time, space, and opportunity for privacy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all personal information concerning resident(s).
- Advocate for and respect resident(s) rights.
- Treat all residents(s), families, coworkers, supervisors, and support staff with dignity and respect.

- Follow all policies and procedures regarding safety in all environments.
- Notify appropriate supervisor of any health or safety concerns or specific needs a resident has.
- Attend all staff meetings and/or safety meetings or trainings.
