Responsible for planning, organizing and administering the Health Information Department. Maintain accurate, efficient and prompt performance of HIM department; supervision of staff and all department operations including DNFC, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), document management functions, release of information, off-site storage, and outside vendor management of services. Ensures confidentiality and privacy of patient information and participates in Quality Improvement activities as directed.
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Responsible for maintaining and securing all written and electronic medical records within the organization.

Organizes multiple assigned projects concurrently through effective time and resource management.
Provide leadership evaluate performance, compare standards, determine trends, identify problems, and ensure competency of staff.
Responsible for managing DNFC (Discharged not final coded) unbilled inventory.
Assures that all "loose, late, or missing" physician dictated reports, laboratory, radiology, etc. work is followed-up and/or filed daily for all patient records. Provides a follow-up of missing forms, when necessary.
Oversees all aspects of chart processing including document prepping and imaging and assembly, chart completion (Oversees the HIM staff, which verifies the completeness of all patient records for physician and/or nursing signatures) and storage/filing of records for timeliness and accuracy.
Oversees CDI program to achieve KPI targets.
Assists in distributing letters to physicians for incomplete records, according to Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
Participates and reports relevant information regarding Quality Improvement activities and committees and assists other staff members to assure that quality care is provided.
Serves as a resource person by knowing, understanding, and implementing department practice and procedures, providing orientation to members of the department.
Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities. Recommends policies and methods to assure that the most accurate and efficient systems are used.
Completes annual educational requirements. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Bell regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and professional conferences.
Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

Minimum EducationBachelor's degree in a related field. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Health Information Administrator (RHIA)Preferred: Master's degree in a related field. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
