Jacobs team in Troy, Michigan is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to be a part of the Geotechnics Group for the Midwest region. As a key member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to lead projects from concept through construction, working on current and upcoming design-bid-build and design-build projects in highways, rail, water, environmental, ports, and advanced facilities sectors.
By joining our practice you'll be responsible for leading geotechnical aspects associated with the design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, and slope stabilizing measures. You will also be responsible for task and project management and mentoring junior staff.
BS in Civil or Geological Engineering
Substantial years of geotechnical consulting experience with increasing level of responsibility.
Previous AASHTO and Michigan DOT structural design experience
Professional Engineering (PE) license in Michigan or ability to obtain in six months
Ability and willingness to visit and safely navigate construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
Experience with exploration methods, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing of soil and rock
Experience designing shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and slope improvements
Experience preparing and stamping technical reports, design drawings, and specifications
Working functionality with many of the following computer programs: SLIDE, SETTLE3, LPILE, APILE, Shaft, FB Multipier, Group, and GRLWEAP. Familiarity with Civil 3D or Open Roads Designer a plus.
Strong history with working with the Michigan DOT on complex geotechnical applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- MS with concentration in Geotechnical Engineering
