POSITION SUMMARY:
The Blast Technician is responsible for blasting and metallizing processes in the manufacture of wind towers, pressurized vessels, or tubes in accordance with customer specifications and high-quality product standards. This position reports directly to the Finishing Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
• Use a variety of techniques to prepare, blast and metalize product surfaces, according to product specifications.
• Inspect complete work and correct defects (i.e., nicks, scratches, etc.)
• Understand difference between blast, metalize and zinc coating.
•Apply array of coatings to various metal surfaces and able to use wet mil gauge.
•Able to lift materials weighing 35 – 45 lbs. on a continuous basis and up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
•Make minor machine repairs and adjustments with appropriate assistance.
•Ensure all safety and maintenance procedures are followed.
• Prepare and replace grit and other components for use in blast booth system.
•Maintain exceptional housekeeping and orderliness standards.
•Ensure Quality Assurance holds are conducted for releasing materials to the next operation.
•Identification and ensuring the correct documentation on hazardous waste manifests.
•Identification, safe handling, and appropriating disposal of hazardous waste materials.
•Employees will perform their job function so that the facility maintains compliance with Part 111 of Act 451 and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
• Accountable for on-time execution of daily work.
• Requests equipment and supplies for completing assigned work.
REQUIREMENTS:
•Formal training in industrial coating applications, at least one year of experience in an industrial blasting or coating environment; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Experience with airless spray systems, zinc, epoxy, and urethane applications
•Good visual acuity for paint texture and color.
•Must be able to stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
•Must be able to work in tight, uncomfortable spaces.
• Ability to understand safety, quality, and production procedures.
• Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills.
•Practical math to accurately complete daily machine reports.
•Load and unload tower sections using overhead cranes and forklifts with various attachments.
•Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Flexibility and adaptability.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
• Knowledge of blasting and metalizing techniques.
