GENERAL SUMMARY:
Must be enrolled in the Henry Ford Health System Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Under the supervision of pharmacy staff, the Pharmacy Technician Apprentice performs the job duties of a pharmacy technician, participates in an approximately six (6) months training program, and receives experiential on-the-job training to prepare for Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam as a pathway to State of Michigan Full Pharmacy Technician Licensure.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pharmacy Technician Apprentice is responsible for completing pharmacy training didactic video modules on personal time according to course outline, as well as attend all scheduled review classes.
Pharmacy Technician Apprentice is also responsible for signing up and successfully completing the PTCB certification exam prior to temporary license expiration and according to the requirements within the apprenticeship along with completing steps and application for Licensure.
The apprentice must be in good standing with HFHS performance standards, compete training modules as scheduled and uphold all HFHS/Pharmacy policies and procedures.
Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, may assist in the distribution, processing, and preparation of medications for patients.
May receive medication orders, enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system, prepare medications and labels for dispensing, deliver medications to patient care areas, maintain drug inventory in dispensing areas, maintain appropriate records, and process medication charges for services rendered.
May perform billing and file maintenance, receive payments for prescriptions and other purchases, and assists in the stocking and storage of inventory.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Typing skills of 25 wpm preferred.
Ability to operate a cash register, calculator and computer.
Ability to maintain (lift, carry, stack) up to 40 lbs. of pharmacy inventory.
Ability to work effectively with others.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Must complete Pharmacy Tech Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL), pass Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)test, and become fully licensed within the timeframe designated in the HFHS Apprenticeship Program.
Must pass the State of Michigan fingerprinting / background check required for Pharmacy Technician licensure.
