Position Overview
The Accounting and Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the general ledger, payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. This role is accountable for presenting and reporting accurate and timely financial information and collaborates closely with accounting, human resources, and other critical roles in the corporate services teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily accounting activities and financial reporting utilizing Deltek Vantagepoint (Vision) ERP systems specific to the engineering services sector.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees accurately and on time through Paycor software system, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on payroll-related matters including onboarding, terminations, and employee data changes.
- Maintain detailed payroll records, process wage adjustments, garnishments, and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring the production of accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reconciliation reports to ensure GAAP compliance and operational efficiency.
- Adhere to accounting and payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls tailored to a professional services environment.
- ESOP and 401k plan data collection for annual census reporting and audit preparation. Generate reports and maintain comprehensive audit trails for payroll transactions and reconciliations.
- Support financial budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis efforts.
- Drive process improvements within accounting and payroll functions to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related work experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a professional services environment.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in processing payroll, expertise with Paycor payroll software is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint (Vision) ERP/accounting systems is preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and payroll compliance regulations, particularly within engineering or consulting firms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with integrated accounting and HR systems is a plus.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position based in Troy, MI.
