General Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the planning, development & execution of prototype manufacture for customers for new applications. Requires coordination & leadership of mechanical aspects of prototype manufacture (hydraulics, tooling design & manufacture) and work effectively with external resources (such as Toolmaker) to deliver the necessary technical solution. Includes organization & management of the lab resources to maintain capability to deliver customer development contracts.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities that are requirements in order to perform the job:
- Perform experimental work at lab, including testing and sample molding- generate technical reports and provide recommendations for technical solutions
- Collaborate and provide main interface with external resources regarding prototype manufacture- manage customer timeline for assigned projects
- Supervise lab equipment and supplies, including maintaining routine documentation according to company safety, quality, and environmental rules
- Manage technical projects to ensure customer timing milestones are met
- Work with team to develop technical solutions for molding Sumitomo products
Supportive Functions:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:
- Assist in new tool design process based on experience from previous projects
- Research & investigate potential new prototype manufacturing processes that could enhance Sumitomo’s value proposition with customers
- Other duties as assigned or directed by management

Education/Experience Guidelines:
- Demonstrated track record of mechanical understanding & problem solving
- Working knowledge of tooling, hydraulics, mechanical actuation
- Associates Degree in Mechanical vocational discipline is preferred (currently studying ok also)
- At least one year of relevant experience in a related field is preferred
