- Assist guests and visitors by opening doors, answering questions and providing emergency and directional assistance.
- Assist or carry patients and visitors from or into private cars and ambulances, stretchers and wheelchairs.
- Escort patients and visitors to and from designated locations.
- Park motor vehicles for guests and visitors when requested.
- Issue, receive, and calculate time expended and collect parking fees.
- Issue tickets and collect parking and valet fees for patients and visitors.
- Receive cash and make change for parking.
- Notify drivers of vehicles of parking violations and inform the appropriate departments if not corrected.
- Coordinate parking operations by directing vehicles to parking spaces and insuring maximum utilization of available space.
- Prepare and maintain charge records for vehicle storage.
- Ensure access to building and driveway by moving traffic.
- Maintain entrance area by performing such duties as sweeping, salting, and shoveling snow as required.
- Maintain a supply of clean and usable wheelchairs and stretchers at entrance.
- Balance cash drawer at completion of shift.
- Provide assistance in emergency disaster programs.
- High School Diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred candidate with previous hospital or public service experience.
- Must be able to tolerate outside adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients/visitors.
- Must be able to work effectively within a team environment.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
- Computer knowledge.
- Must be able to lift patients in/out of vehicles, wheelchairs, etc.
- Must be able to drive motor vehicles as requested.
- Must be able to pass a criminal history check.
- Must have a valid State of Michigan driver?s license.
- The validity of the license must be confirmed through the Michigan Secretary of State and the same confirmation shall be done quarterly.

Work days: Tuesday - Saturday
Shift start/end times: 8:00am - 4:40pm
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
