A company in West Michigan specializing in the repair and rebuilding of press machines is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining the root cause of equipment, parts, or systems failures. This role involves troubleshooting, analysis, and repair of machines or systems based on customer requests. The Mechanical Engineer will divide their time between hands-on work on the floor and office-based tasks involving SolidWorks and reverse engineering.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot machines, parts, and systems.
Discuss issues with customers to identify the root cause of failure.
Update prints and BOMs for manufacturing to ensure accuracy.
Create guidelines and testing protocols for failure analysis.
Communicate with field service technicians to provide necessary information for inspecting, repairing, rebuilding, or modifying equipment.
Disassemble and specify machines, parts, or systems.
Discuss customer complaints and test results.
Utilize CAD software (SolidWorks) to navigate and update prints.
Use FEA and physical tools to identify root causes and test equipment.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Proficiency in SolidWorks.
Blueprint reading skills.
Root Cause Analysis and troubleshooting of machinery, specifically press machines.
Experience in GD&T.
Experience in machining environments (building, designing, or repairing machines).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with press machine design, repair, or building.
Knowledge of drive shaft mechanisms.
Work Environment
The work environment includes standard hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, collaborating with four other engineers, three quality team members, and a field service team. The company offers a small but growing environment with plans to update their facilities and relocate operations to Grand Rapids. Benefits include three weeks of vacation and ten paid holidays.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $34.62/hr.
