Qualifications
Associate's degree (Required)
Between 2 and 5 years of related experience (Required)
Valid, unrestricted Driver's License or ability to obtain by start date (Required)
Experience reconciling and balancing financial accounts (Preferred)
Prior experience working with a financial aid office (Preferred)
Essential Responsibilities
• (Critical) Analyzes financial aid data to determine student eligibility and financial need and verifies student loan eligibility through the Banner system for different loan programs.
• (Critical) Conducts financial aid workshops and presentations both onand offcampus, including some evening and weekend presentations for students, parents and community members.
• (Critical) Advises and counsels students and parents regarding eligibility requirements, application procedures and available financial aid programs.
• (Critical) Processes financial aid applications in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations, and determines and awards complex financial aid packages, involving grant, loan, work study, scholarships, etc.
• (Critical) Communicates and maintains quality working relationships with a diverse student, parent, faculty/staff, and community population, offering information and professional guidance on financial aid matters.
• (Critical) Participates in the development of the Financial Aid Department by reviewing, and/or revising brochures, manuals, handouts and other financial aid informational material, and reviewing and revising financial aid forms, policies and procedures.
• (Critical) Manage and coordinate the consortium program with multiple institutions to assist students with maximum aid and efficient completion of their educational purpose/goal.
• (Critical) Continually monitor and implement Federal regulations related to financial aid in accordance with the United States Department of Education. In addition to the Student Scholarships and Grants for the state of Michigan (SSG). Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance of Federal and State regulations.
• (Critical) Manage, award and reconcile the processing of federal workstudy in accordance with federal regulations. Communicate and coordinate with the various office managers, payroll and human resources.
• (Critical) Utilize professional judgment in the calculation and processing of Special Circumstance Petitions in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• (Critical) Utilize professional judgment in the review and processing of Dependent Override Request in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• (Very Important) Calculate, apply and notify students of Satisfactory Academic Progress along with Failed to Attend adjustments and notifications in accordance with federal regulations and Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) Policy and Procedures.
• (Important) Maintain transaction/cash logs and issue receipts. Prepare daily deposits for all receipts from students, parents, etc.
• (Important) Collect and process financial aid documents in compliance with Federal and State regulations.
• (Important) Collect and process other documents needed to assist students, parents, etc. with admissions, records, financial aid or financial accounts.
• (Minor Importance) Post job description, review applications, interview candidates and select candidates for student employment in the financial aid office.
• (Minor Importance) Respond to employee, third party payer, and student questions regarding financial aid, registration, policy and procedures, student accounts and refer as appropriate.
• (Minor Importance) Carry out relevant public relations efforts, serving as a department and NMC representative in work activities with high schools, third parties and other community representatives.
