Job Summary
This role is responsible for the design, start-up, commissioning, and maintenance of the electrical systems (480V and below), Building Automation System (BAS), and stand-alone Process Logic Controllers (PLC's). This position will oversee electrical and controls projects, troubleshoot systems, and be the lead point of contact for electrical and controls systems used throughout the facility.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the site's electrical and Building Automation System (BAS), including changes, upgrades, programming, installations, and overall proper operation.
Generate and review reports from the Building Automation System (BAS) to maintain proper system health and ensure data capture to maintain GLP compliance.
Plan and perform preventative maintenance and repair of controls-related HVAC and plant equipment.
Analyze plant electrical and automation/control systems; design and implement improvements.
Provide remote support as needed to troubleshoot and maintain the Building Automation System and other control systems.
Work with Engineering and Facilities personnel to design and implement control sequences for the Building Automation System that improve plant efficiency.
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, knowledgeablewith Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Bluebeam (REVU CAD).
Oversee the programing of various standalone PLC platforms for systems that include mechanical equipment, waste management, cold storage, etc., that are not controlled by the Building Automation System.
Provide expertise and direction to technicians and contractors, execute activities as needed, and ensure successful completion of all electrical and control components.
Partner cross-functionally and work with various departments regarding the implementation and maintenance of electrical and automated equipment, systems and controllers.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic control system malfunctions, including both hardware and software.
Oversee the installation, setup, and commissioning of various third-party integration devices.
Integrate low-voltage sensors and building sub-systems using various industry protocols such as BACNet, N2, Modbus, etc.
Create and/or work with vendors to create graphics for Building Automation System interface.
Act as the project manager for assigned projects to ensure successful completion of all project activities.
Work cross-functionally with Charles River Information Technology teams and/or automation contractors to support the operations and maintenance of the Building Automation System and other network systems as required.
Oversee the installation, setup and commissioning building automation system controllers as required to support site growth, expansion, maintenance, and upgrades.
Ensure that project timelines and budgets are maintained.
Ensure clear communication among all groups involved in successful delivery of projects.
Interface with vendors relating to control systems, automation, and facilities/laboratory equipment.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of Building Automation System service contractors to ensure satisfactory completion of work.
Ensuring compliance with national and local safety codes and regulations
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or controls system engineering
Experience: 3-5 years designing and implementing installations or improvements to HVAC building automated systems.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education listed above.
Certification/Licensure: Building Automation System certifications regarding programming and operation highly preferred.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED certification preferred.
AutoCAD Certified Professional (ACP) or AutoCAD Certified User (ACU).
Other: Must have experience in writing computer programs and software applications related to the HVAC industry.
Experience with any of the following platforms preferred: Schneider EcoStruxure, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium, Delta, Honeywell, Allerton, Automated Logic Controls, etc.
Experience in the integration of low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols, such as BACNet, N2, Modbus, etc. preferred.
Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high lift equipment, working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and work/type at a computer.
Employees must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The pay range for this position is $110k - 120k/year. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on experience and education.
