Job Description

The Fiscal Specialist, under the direct supervision of higher level personnel, performs a range of accounting tasks but is primarily responsible for timekeeping, ordering supplies, small equipment inventory, and reporting. An employee in this class performs all administrative timekeeping functions ensuring that Public Health employee payroll payments accurately reflect work hours and time
distribution, assists with FMLA, LWP, and merit increases, completes purchasing activities, equipment inventory, prepares and records standard and general journal entries in compliance with well-defined and standardized departmental procedures. The Fiscal Specialist writes various reports pertaining to fiscal activities involving programs, projects, and grants, and performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

1. Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Public Administration, or Business Administration;

OR Have an Associate’s degreefrom an accredited college or university with a major course work in Accounting, Public Administration, or Business Administration; AND Have a minimum of four (4) years full-time increasingly responsible work experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or closely related field;including cost accounting, journal entries, and balancing various ledgers.

2. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
