Description
Community Services Assistant (R.E.S.E.T)
The pandemic, including the long-term restrictions on usual activities, has taken a heavy toll on older adults. The Re-Engaging in Self-care and Enjoying Today (RESET) S tu dy, funded by the National Institute on Nursing Research, is a collaboration between the Detroit Health Department (DHD) and University of Michigan School of Public Health (UM SPH). RESET is a 5-year, randomized controlled trial. In the study, participants will engage in activities to leverage personal strengths and resilience while learning strategies to improve daily functioning. The program also emphasizes community strengths and resources and helps to address unmet social needs and challenges created by the pandemic. The study is seeking two, full-time Community Health Workers (CHWs) to lead telephone-based group sessions and support study activities.
CHWs will be housed within the Detroit Health Department and will work in partnership with the study team (DHD and UM SPH). This is a full-time position and requires mandatory completion of MiCHWA CHW Training Program after being hired (paid for by the study). In addition to facilitating telephone-based group sessions, CHWs will participate in recruitment efforts, attend study team meetings, as well as other study activities relevant to their role. CHWs will also meet with participants one-on-one to provide support and resources for unmet social needs.

Minimum Qualifications
The Community Health Worker should take initiative, have strong interpersonal skills, be culturally competent, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Should have experience working with an electronic medical record. Additionally, candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
EDUCATION/ TRAINING:
High School diploma/ GED required
MiCHWA CHW Training Program Certificate of Completion
Additional, study-specific training will be provided by the study team
Opportunities for continuing education will be provided
Associates degree or related training preferred
Reliable transportation
Proof of vehicle insurance
Minimum of one-year work experience in a health or human service setting; Preferred two-three years of experience in human services, case management and/or working with clients to provide education, identify support needs, develop service plans, and problem solving
Experience working with health care systems and community-based organizations
Experience working with multicultural communities
Maintains complete and accurate records of activities and services provided.
Provides written reports for activities and services.
Completes training in all aspects of the program activities.
Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED
Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, education, psychology, guidance and counseling or related field.
One year of experience in case work, group work, individual and group counseling and guidance, social research or community or public relations.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING
- Completion of Emergency Preparedness training to include, but not limited to FEMA ISC 100, 200, 700 and 800 and others as required by department staff
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must be available to work primarily afternoon and evening hours, as well as weekends (Saturdays).

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
