Position Summary:
The Director of Institutional Assessment and Curriculum is responsible for the overall coordination of university-wide efforts to enhance and promote program excellence in all curricular initiatives via assessment and continual improvement. This includes recommending initiatives to improve the effectiveness and efficacy of assessment processes and practices. This position promotes an environment that supports student-focused learning, a culture of evidence and continuous improvement, and the use of assessment data for program improvement, accreditation, and overall program alignment. The Director manages and supervises the staff and functions associated with the university bulletins and coordination of curricular activities, and provides guidance to staff as they support curriculum committees during the curriculum approval process. Additionally, this position assists in the management of academic program information for reporting purposes to national, state, and regional constituents.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution.
Three years of experience in an academic administration or highly related position.
Experience working with assessment and/or curriculum databases and software programs.
Experience managing multi-stage, complex tasks effectively.
Demonstrated thorough understanding of, and experience with, assessment and curricular processes in higher education.
Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, timeliness, and follow-through.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervises and coordinates the duties and responsibilities of staff within the Curriculum and Assessment area of the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support (CIS ).
Serves as the primary administrator for the effective functioning and utilization of CMU’s Assessment Management System and supports staff responsible for oversight of CMU’s Curricular System.
Serves as the Academic Division’s administrative liaison for the Academic Senate’s Assessment Council to enhance the assessment culture and support the coordination and expeditious review and feedback on program assessment plans and annual assessment reports.
Facilitates the development and implementation of a culture of assessment to ensure academic and institutional assessment efforts manifest a commitment to continuous improvement in academic programs.
Assists the college accreditation/assessment staff, faculty, and others with the development of meaningful and sustainable program assessment plans. This includes contributing to the advancement, measurement, and communication of quality indicators in support of student-focused learning, academic quality, and other aspects of institutional quality.
Collaborates with the college accreditation/assessment staff and faculty on ways to link assessment data to the continuous improvement of academic programs.
Establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships with University leaders (e.g., Provost, Senior Vice Provost of Academic and Curricular Affairs, HLC Accreditation Liaison Officer, Deans/Associate Deans, College Accreditation/Assessment staff, Assessment Council members, and faculty).
Collaborates with the Academic Senate’s Assessment Council to review funding requests and provide expenditure recommendations for the outcomes assessment budget.
Advises faculty and academic administrators on the development and/or modification of academic programs to align with best practices in assessment and curricular development.
Coordinates CMU’s quarterly review of curricular proposals submitted by member institutions to the Michigan Association of State Universities.
Represents the Academic division on relevant committees as assigned by the Executive Director of (CIS ), Senior Vice Provost, Provost, and others as requested.
Provides appropriate information to the Executive Director of CIS , Senior Vice Provost, and Provost as needed, on important issues associated with the above responsibilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
