Description
The City of Detroit's Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently seeking an Instructor - Transportation Equipment Operator for their DDOT Vehicle Operation division.
Under general supervision, at a transportation terminal, instructs Transportation Equipment Operators individually or in small groups in the operation and care of transportation equipment and in the methods of maintaining proper public relations.
Examples of Duties
Instructs individuals or small groups in the operation of transportation equipment by accompanying them on practice runs.
Provides instructions in the approved methods of maintaining proper public relations.
Explains and demonstrates the construction, function, and coordination of transportation equipment.
Explains the cause of mechanical failures and the results of equipment abuses.
Assists in the preparation of programs for instructing personnel and classes in safety and defensive driving techniques.
Instructs Commercial Driver License classes.
Certifies qualified participants.
Reads and interprets schedules and explains terminal procedures.
Prepares reports on investigations of abuse of equipment and complaints.
Reviews driver accident records, recommends re-training for operators with unsatisfactory performance records.
Enters coded transportation equipment accident and incident information into computer terminals, completes and maintains a variety of training-related forms.
Compiles and maintains records of instruction and prepares reports.
Instructs professional development training consisting of customer service, conflict resolution, sexual harassment, ethics, and workplace violence.
Investigates and resolves customer service complaints.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or G.E.D. Four years of experience in operating transportation equipment.
Two years of experience in instructing and orienting assigned Transportation Equipment Operators-In-Training on regularly scheduled runs.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
