Powertrain Controls Engineer (Troy, MI, or other unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.). Responsibilities include: Supporting the development of powertrain control software for NA EV/FC/PHV projects, per project schedules. Applying model based embedded control systems design. Designing and calibrating control software to deliver torque and speed to the wheels utilizing related powertrain components. Incorporating supporting software and electronics into powertrain projects. Working with controllers is necessary to communicate and carry out the powertrain function in delivering requested torque and speed, within system limitations. Establishing CAN communication between powertrain components and controllers. Converting CAN messages sent and received by controllers according to specific requirements. Supporting fault detection and diagnostic requirements for all related functions. Testing company’s and competitor’s powertrain components and generating and analyzing data to support conclusions. Converting Little Endian to Big Endian and vice versa. Researching and investigating electrified powertrain technology, through technical publications, conferences, and collaboration with automotive engineering suppliers. Focusing attention on powertrain components including calibration, HiL testing, validation, and automotive controls. Working closely with systems, wire harness, hardware electronics and component engineers. MS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related. 8 mon exp in any Engineering position related to powertrain. 8 mon. in: Hil (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing; CAN communication; MATLAB; Simulink; GitHub. Academic program must have included: Powertrain Controls Software Development; Model-Based Embedded Control System Design; MiL (Model-in-the Loop) Testing; CANKing data analysis software; Convert Little Endian to Big Endian; New Eagle software tools -MotoHawk, MotoTune. Must be Certified in Hybrid Electric Drive Vehicle Engineering. Telecommuting permitted. 40 hrs/wk. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. $108,826/year.
