Join a growing community bank in Southeast Michigan. Bank Michigan is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part Time Loan Collections Specialist (averages 20 hours/week).
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the overall collection of overdrawn deposit accounts and past-due payments on consumer and/or commercial loans.
Job Responsibilities:
Collections:
- Performs collection duties on assigned delinquent loan accounts and overdrawn deposit accounts: Contacts customers, negotiates extensions and modifications of loan terms and arranges payment schedules in accordance with Bank policy. Recommends to Lending Officer those loan accounts requiring special handling.
- Maintains records, prepares periodic reports.
- Sends letters and makes telephone calls to delinquent borrowers and overdrawn depositors and documents contacts on the computer program.
- Identifies problem loans through the collections process, describes deficiencies and alerts the Chief Credit Officer to the potential problem loan.
- Represents the bank in small claims court as necessary. Prepares reports to update the Loan Committee monthly.
- May assist with working with troubled loans in a work-out capacity, in partnership with the work-out officer or Chief Credit Officer, to modify loans as necessary. May also assist with ORE property management.
- Follows applicable regulations in the recovery of the assets.
- Coordinates asset management (i.e. schedules maintenance, 3rd party vendor services, etc.)
- Works with outside realtors for property listings and inquiries.
- Must be proficient in all computer programs/systems used to process the delinquent loans,(Bankway, MS Office, etc.).
- Cross-train others, as assigned, in the collections of past-due loans and/or the relevant programs/systems.
- Maintains procedural documentation of relevant tasks/responsibilities.
- Prioritizes work according to necessity, complexity and deadlines.
- Contacts various third parties for processing a delinquent loan including, but not limited to, other recovery agencies as needed.
- Understands the legal and procedural requirements of each loan and deposit type and the corresponding delinquency policy and processing requirements thereof.
- Provides exemplary service to customer inquiries in person, written correspondence and via phone.
ORE Property Management:
- In conjunction with the Chief Credit Officer, oversees the Bank's recovered properties and assets.
- Follows applicable regulations in the recovery of the assets.
- Coordinates asset management (i.e. schedules maintenance, 3rd party vendor services, etc.)
- Works with outside realtors for property listings and inquiries.
Other:
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
- Acts as an advocate for the Bank in all interactions, both internally and externally.
- Attends regular trainings/seminars both inside and outside the bank, as needed.
- Work harmoniously and collaboratively with team members to accomplish bank objectives.
Job Requirements:
Education: Associate's Degree in business, accounting, finance or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Certifications: None
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training, and Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of similar prior banking experience required; consumer and/or commercial collections experience preferred. Extraordinary attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Successful completion of in-house training program. Displays the confidence and competence to gain/maintain the Bank's credibility. Takes initiative to learn, develop oneself and see things through from start to finish. Excellent interpersonal communication, problem solving and computer skills.
