SUMMARY: The Work Services staff member shall have the primary responsibilities for training/supervision of participants involved in the mobile crew operations. Work Services staff members assist participants in developing adaptive skills and functioning in order to promote greater independence in the community. Works with other staff and participants to accomplish goals and objectives outlined in the person-centered plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in janitorial operations to include:
- Instruct participants in work methods and techniques; one-to-one instruction may be required.
- Training of participants on improving janitorial skills and the operation of equipment.
- Knowledge of all equipment utilized and maintenance of equipment.
- Ensure completion of janitorial needs as written in the contract per site.
- Maintain proper floor care procedures.
- Complete all required documentation, such as job tickets, seizure and incident reports, etc.
- Maintains ongoing communication with the supervisor on equipment and maintenance needs.
- Perform equipment and maintenance repairs as requested or needed.
- Attends staff and program meetings as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of the participants at all times and becomes familiar with the Michigan Department of Community Health Recipient Rights System.
- Volunteers' input concerning job skills and activities is needed in order to facilitate functioning.
- Adhere to all safety regulations as outlined in the safety handbook and according to OSHA/MIOSHA standards. Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) compliance and maintenance of all requirements.
- Adhere to all Thumb Industries, Inc. policies and procedures.
- Active participant in working cooperatively towards the mission of the facility.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCES: Minimum of a high school diploma, knowledge/experience in maintenance and equipment repair.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to hear, read, and interpret contract information. Ability to document (write) routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients, staff.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions. Ability to interpret non-verbal clientele.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Includes a valid Driver's License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, or hear. The employee is required to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and reach with their hands and arms. The employee is also required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and must occasionally lift or move up to or over 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required for this job include normal vision and the ability to focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to very loud.
