Controls Engineer
Job Description
The role of the Controls Engineer is to design, develop, troubleshoot, and document complete control programs for custom automation equipment. Programming of control systems using PLC's, PC's, servo drives, robots, and other more specialized controllers is a requirement. Skilled in troubleshooting of electrical controls and mechanical mechanisms. Need for good organization skills as wells as self-discipline and works with minimal supervision. Set an example of company culture with integrity and professional competence. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Primary:
Produce completed code/designs for assigned equipment.
Produce assigned station flow charts.
Generate and requisition complete electrical bill of materials for assigned project equipment.
Integrate and commission assigned assembled equipment and devices.
Debug assigned equipment to achieve required function.
Verify assigned I/O lists meet project requirements.
Participate in or lead design reviews for assigned equipment.
Conduct Factor Acceptance Tests.
Travel to customer sites to debug assigned installed equipment.
Conduct Site Acceptance Tests.

Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.
Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
Attend all required health, safety and environmental training.
Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- An associate degree in computer science, engineering, system design, or controls technology or
equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, system design, or controls technology is
preferred.
Experience:
Five years' experience in systems/controls development and integration of factor automation equipment; thorough understanding of PLC's, robotics, control systems and machine operation is required.
Working with several Allen/Bradley PLC's, PanelView's, DH+ and related components is advantageous.
Ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology is essential.
A working knowledge of PC's and PC based applications is essential.
Must have ability to work with and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
Visual Acuity - Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens
Hearing Ability - Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
Working Conditions - The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional
exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
