Job Summary
Under indirect & supervision installs, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, calibrates, tests, adjusts, inspects, modifies, operates, checks, maintains & lubricates a variety of different types of control, computer, alarm indicating & recording instruments & systems.
Performs maintenance on various digital & analog equipment & systems. Troubleshoots & repairs instrument & control equipment & systems from tie-in to final control element. Fabricates & operates test equipment. Records & analyzes calibration, repair & test data. Reads & works from blue prints, diagrams & drawings. Obtains & analyzes water samples to control chemistry. Assists & works with vendor representatives, operators, & other organizations.Uses & maintains test equipment & tools: Elect Test Equip, Mechanical Test Equip, & operates rigging, scaffolding, man lifts, forklifts, stake truck.
Directs the work & assists in training instrument & Control Technicians in training. Performs as a protection/job leader for other I & C Techs and other classifications. May act as senior leader or planner.
Advises the Operating Authority on the tagging & chemical systems to protect personnel & prevent equip damage. Provides training on equip & unit operation. Develops & writes operating instructions. Acts as a protection leader for vendors.
Key Accountabilities
1.Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, calibrates, tests, adjusts, inspects, modifies, operates, checks, maintains & lubricates various equipment including but not limited to Automatic Controls; Distributive Controls & Monitoring Systems; Continuous Emission Monitoring; Programmable Logic Controllers; computer &/or PC based control systems. Microprocessor controls, turbine supervisory instruments; vibration monitors; AC/DC variable speed drivers; flame-scanners, opacity monitoring, analog/digital controls, fiber optics, data loggers, multi-point recorders & charts Meters, instruments & level detectors, multiplexing systems, industrial communication, fire detection/protection, chromatographs, oil meters, tachometers, potentiometers, cycle timers, control relays, thermo-couples, timing devices, control valves, actuators, alarm & tripping devices, coal scales & samplers, linear & rotary drives, etc.
2.DCS Systems: Software/Hardware upgrades, troubleshoots, repairs. PC Based & Digital/Analog Systems: Installs, upgrades, troubleshoots, repairs, configures new & current systems. Backups & archives data. Programs devices & maintain backup data in the network library/disk library. Maintain computer hardware & software.
3.Performs maintenance on equipment. Troubleshoot the component level; repairing/replacing (integrated circuits, transistors, vacuum tubes, resistors, capacitors, transformers, printed circuit boards).
4.Troubleshoots & corrects a wide variety of problems with electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic failures to systems
5. Installs & repairs tubing, fabrication & compound bends, as it applies to instrumentation, works with mech fittings as pipe nipples, tees, elbows, bushings, reducers, compression, flare, etc. Sweat solders & performs minor brazing. Run lengths of seal tight, wire internal panel, fabricate instrument racks, & install small electrical boxes. Work with electrical connectors for instrument work. Repairs control/regulating valves & trim replacement/ packing installation.
6.Installs & maintains & repairs laboratory & field equip with Plant Water Chemistry. Maintains chemistry records. Performs samples required by local, state or federal regulatory agencies.
7.Uses chemicals when analyzing samples & servicing equipment. Order chemical reagents. Acts as a first responder in the event of chlorinating equip spills & leaks. Performs cleanup & proper disposal for mercury spills
8.Maintains records of repairs, calibration data, environmental data. Responsible for operation, troubleshooting & repair of CEM equip to ensure operational & regulatory compliance. Prepares a list of parts & material for submittal supervision for approval.
9.Understands blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals, computer databases & drawings for calibration, modification & troubleshooting. Uses charts, curves, tables, graphs, formulas & calculations. Updates, revises and creates plant documents.Provides technical support to plant groups on complex electrical & electronic control schemes, and provides technical support to off-site groups & external customers.
