JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will perform a variety of law enforcement functions, including, but not limited to patrol, security, investigations, crime prevention, community policing, and traffic & parking enforcement. The successful candidate is expected to diligently follow the Mission and Vision of the Saginaw Valley State University Police Department as well as the Core Values of the University.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patrol campus grounds and perimeter in a patrol car, on foot, bike, and a 4x4 to ensure a safe environment; including traffic enforcement, emergency response, law enforcement, etc.

Coordinate and provide for the delivery of emergency services to campus.

Receive, investigate, and complete reported complaints for the campus community, and other investigative services as requested.

Coordinate criminal prosecutions with federal, state and/or local police agencies and with prosecutor’s office(s) for criminal incidents occurring within the university community.

Serve as liaison with other social service agencies.

Develop, coordinate, and implement crime prevention and community policing programs and projects.

Assist in the coordination and patrol of special and sporting events as required.

Provide interim emergency medical response as needed.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervision is received from the Chief of Police or Command Staff designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May be responsible for the training and supervision of student employees, and occasional supervision of less senior officers in the absence of the Chief of Police and Police Sergeant.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) license, or licensable upon appointment.

5 or more years of Law Enforcement Experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations in which you may not be familiar.

Ability to work under pressure, occasionally for extended periods of time.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to work with appropriate safety-related gear including a bulletproof vest, firearms, handcuffs, etc.

Ability to prepare accurate and complete reports efficiently.

Basic knowledge of personal computers.

Experience and ability to positively interact with diverse student populations and groups.

Ability to perform the essential duties of the job, with or without accommodation.

Work schedule will vary and can include days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays. Some overtime maybe required.
