Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Troy, MI. Element Troy provides testing and engineering services to manufacturers and leading suppliers in the passenger car, light truck, bus, off-highway, and military vehicle sectors. Its range of capabilities includes closed loop servo hydraulic component and system durability testing, system simulation, and full vehicle structural testing.
Responsibilities
Plan, set up, and execute MTS 329 full vehicle and half vehicle, MAST, 4/6 post and custom fatigue, durability and real time simulation tests
Configure data acquisition systems and transducers to measure and collect high-quality test data
Analyze test results using nCode GlyphWorks and other nCode modules to assess fatigue life, damage accumulation, and weld class analysis. Calculate/generate flow, velocity, acceleration and displacement response data from provided variables
Perform RLDA data editing of real time proving ground or customer correlation route response data for life/damage/severity retention, correlation and weld class analysis. Generate edited response files for simulation tests,
Real Phase and peak /valley slice response files for durability test
Generate Excel/JAEL plots from static/quasistatic permanent set or ultimate strength data collected during testing
Use of Labview/NI software to generate block cycle loading programs and permanent set/ultimate strength programs.
Configure custom control routines to support customers' requirements
Interpret test data, correlate with simulations, and report discrepancies or failures
Prepare detailed technical documentation and test reports in accordance with internal and industry standards
Skills / Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
5+ years of hands-on experience with MTS 329 simulator test procedures
Familiar with real time Multi-Axis Simulation and durability testing using servo-hydraulic controllers (MTS Flex 200, 458,407) and software (MTS RPC PRO)
Proficiency with nCode software (GlyphWorks, DesignLife) for data processing and fatigue life prediction
Strong understanding of various transducers, including strain gauges, accelerometers, load cells, LVDT's, RVIT, and data acquisition systems for use during road load data acquisition or laboratory data response data collection.
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis
Proficient in Microsoft Word and technical reporting
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
