Position Summary

This part-time Police Officer position serves the College community as a sworn officer responsible for ensuring safety and security through patrolling, emergency response, law enforcement, and public service. Officers serve as a visible presence on campus, provide assistance during emergencies, and work proactively to maintain a safe learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited to the Following
Patrol (Vehicle, Bicycle, Foot):

Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and support college operations

Respond to service calls and emergencies
-
Investigate incidents, secure evidence, and prepare reports
-
Control traffic and parking areas; issue warnings or citations

Make arrests when warranted
-
Provide visible presence on campus grounds and buildings
Emergency Response:
-
Administer emergency first aid
-
Respond to medical, fire, and law enforcement incidents
-
Serve legal documents as needed
-
Assist with vehicle crashes and traffic control
-
Cooperate with other emergency agencies
Investigations and Documentation:
-
Conduct investigations for criminal and non-criminal complaints
-
Interview involved parties and complete detailed reports
-
Process LiveScan fingerprinting as needed

Collaborate with prosecutors, law enforcement, and campus judicial systems
Public Service and Community Engagement:
-
Assist with vehicle lockouts, safety escorts, wrecker services, and wayfinding

Operate dispatch and communication systems
-
Promote safety awareness and maintain familiarity with campus operations
Required Qualifications
-
Associate degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or equivalent knowledge and skills

Licensed Police Officer by M.C.O.L.E.S

Valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Comfortable working with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, and visitors

Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
-
Physically able to perform the duties of a police officer (including strenuous activity and inclement weather conditions)

This is an essential personnel position—required to report to work during college closures
Additional Experiences Considered
-
Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement / Criminal Justice
-
CPR/First Aid or Medical First Responder certification
-
Training in lethal and non-lethal use of force
-
Precision driving certification
-
Previous experience in a college or university law enforcement environment
