The Northville Health Center is an Ambulatory Care facility comprised of clinical and diagnostic services, dedicated to providing high quality health care services for Adults and Children. The 2-story facility is located at the corner of 7 Mile and Haggerty in Northville Township. We are seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.
The Northville Health Center Kellogg Eye Center seeks to improve lives through curing, preventing and treating eye disease. By performing basic tests and procedures under the close supervision of medical and allied health staff. Mastery of all basic tests and procedures.
Perform the duties of an ophthalmic technician, as well as:
- Perform ophthalmic tests and procedures with proficiency in the ophthalmic sub-specialties
- Coordinate follow-up care of patients
- Assist in training and coordinating the work of ophthalmic assistants and technicians
- Participate in research studies
- Actively assist in clinic workflow, scheduling of technicians, communicating delays to patients
- Other duties as directed by supervisor
- Provide exceptional patient service
- Assist in clinical procedures
Senior level responsibilities
Perform all duties of an ophthalmic technician intermediate in addition to:
- Coordinate follow-up care of patients.
- Train and coordinate the work of Ophthalmic Technician Associate/Intermediate's in the clinic.
- Coordinate the ordering of clinic supplies
- Identify and implement process improvements in clinical operations.
- Plan and teach department continuing educations courses.
- Prepare and coordinate pre-op surgery packets tailored to provider needs/preferences
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ophthalmic tech staff regarding clinical protocols and workflow questions.
- Help manage daily tech assignments and clinic flow to ensure efficiency.
- Act as a liaison between tech staff, providers, and clinic leadership.
- Ensure all techs are competent in key skills (e.g., refraction, tonometry, imaging etc).
- Resolve patient concerns or escalated issues in collaboration with providers and leadership
ASSOCIATE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from high school is necessary; two years of college with courses in health science area is desirable.
- Successful completion of Michigan Medicine's 12-week training program is required or some experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required within one year of employment.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology is desirable.
- This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from high school
- Reasonable experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
- Respectful and compassionate attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation.
- Collaborative and collegial, demonstrates integrity
- Organized, able to maintain and coordinate multiple items.
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in data entry, analysis, graphing, Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with electronic equipment.
SENIOR LEVEL REQUREMENTS
- Graduation from high school is necessary;
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is required.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology is desirable.
- This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
Associate/Intermediate level:
- Associate's Degree in health care
- 1-3 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience
Senior level:
- Two years of college with courses in the health science area is desirable.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
