Job Summary: Working leader that oversees split shift, including directing workload of split shift staff, acting as a liaison to management, maintaining a safe, productive, and professional work environment, and performing various warehouse and yard duties as needed.
- Direct, coordinate, and assign daily tasks and work assignments for split shift staff.
- Work reports to monitor what needs to be pulled and loaded for delivery and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Keep management informed of split shift’s progress, events, and needs.
- Provide input on employee performance to management.
- Receive, put away product, pull orders and prepare for shipment.
- Load accurately picked orders for delivery.
- Answer the phone after hours and assist employees, customers, and others as appropriate referring serious and/or involved questions and issues to management.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, appearance, and safety of the building inside and out during split shift.
- Train new staff.
- Work safely.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Acting as the liaison between management and split shift staff, the Shift Leadperson is responsible for overseeing split shift and expected to do the following:
- Direct, coordinate, and assign daily tasks and work assignments.
- Train new employees.
- Keep management informed of overall shift developments and staff performance (i.e. staffing or resources needed, progress/delays, safety issues, team concerns and suggestions, etc.).
- Informal problem solving.
- Maintain a safe, productive, and professional work environment for split shift.
The Split Shift Leadperson may provide input to management but does not have full authority or exercise full decision-making authority in the following areas.
- Hiring
- Disciplinary action, up to and including termination
- Complaint/grievance resolution
- Formal written performance evaluation
- Reclassification, promotion/demotion, pay
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding warehouse and yard layouts and the different types of product stocked.
- Strong knowledge of Company policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective organizational and stress management skills.
- Effective motivation and delegation skills.
- Set positive example as a leader of the shift.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Eclipse.
- Sound judgment on what should be referred to and handled by management.
- Basic adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division skills either with or without a calculator.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; or
- One to two years of related experience and training; or
- Equivalent combination of experience and education.
Certifications and/or Licenses:
- Ability to pass operator exam and drive powered industrial equipment.
