Woodward in Zeeland, MI is looking for Materials Technician 1 on our 1st shift, Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm to join our team. This position will be responsible for performing various assembly and testing processes on our products. If you have experience in assembly in a manufacturing environment, apply now!
Essential Functions:
Reviews certification of incoming material and performs periodic routine testing
Ensures laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated appropriately and meets specification and functional limits
Records test results (numerical and graphical data); reviews test results for compliance to test objectives and documents test progress
Instructs others in the safe and proper use of applicable lab hardware and tools
Creates NCR's
Performs basic maintenance functions for equipment as directed by engineers
Records test procedures and enters results in computer database
Reviews test results for compliance to test objectives
Examines parts for conformance to system or component specifications
Ability to learn basic metallography techniques and how to use common analytical instruments such as the metallograph, macro/microhardness testers, and equipment and chemicals used in metallography
Reads/understands engineering drawings, specifications, and operation sheets
Performs qualification of special processes such as braze joints, weld joints, electrical discharge machined (EDM) surfaces, hard coat, consumables or operator certification
Individual may work directly with outside suppliers
Writes and communicates test reports
Other Essential Functions:
Maintains proper organization and cleanliness of test set ups, work areas and common areas. Follows all Woodward safety directives
Ability to follow work instructions, ask for assistance and/or help when decision-making is necessary
May participate in internal audits
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Ability to effectively work in a team environment and maintain good customer focus. Basic understanding of organizational structure and flow of information in the company. Recognizes problems which are beyond capabilities and seeks help from senior technicians or Materials Engineers
Reads/understands engineering drawings, specifications, and operation sheets. Consults with senior technicians
Ability to learn basic metallography techniques and how to use common analytical instruments such as the metallograph, macro/microhardness testers, and equipment and chemicals used in metallography, including image analysis software
Ability to learn and apply new concepts/techniques to work environment
Basic understanding of component function and testing. Learning assembly and test processes, drawings and geometric tolerances as well as shop standards and procedures
Effective written/verbal communication skills, basic presentation skills; learning technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.)
Basic PC skills with some functional experience using spreadsheet, word processing, and WISE screens
Learning to setup and troubleshoot basic instrumentation
Learning appropriate WISE applications such as BOM, Item Master, NCR, EFMS, WWV, BDDS
Basic "hands on" abilities
Education:
US - High School Diploma
Experience:
Manufacturing experience with general mechanical/electrical aptitude or lab experience
Production assembly, manufacturing and special processes exposure
Familiar with the use of standard material specifications and handbooks
