Lead the performance and marketing operations area within the Zondervan Bible, Academic, and Reflective publishing programs at HarperCollins Christian Publishing company. Serving readers of all ages and stages, pastors, and scholars, this senior leadership role will drive growth through innovative digital strategies, with a focus on Amazon marketplace performance, digital marketing, and data-driven audience engagement. The ideal candidate will excel at building efficient processes and systems from the ground up, establishing a foundation for scalable marketing operations. You will oversee our evolution from traditional publicity to an approach that integrates influencers, podcasters, and digital content creators. You will balance analytical expertise with creative vision to optimize marketing performance, scale our digital presence, and steward resources effectively.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Grand Rapids, MI or Nashville, TN offices
Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight for e-commerce growth, email marketing, social media channels, creative initiatives, and comprehensive digital strategy
Lead our transformation from traditional publicity to an approach that integrates influencers, podcasters, and digital content creators
Develop and implement data-driven frameworks for marketing analytics, metadata optimization, and budget allocation
Build efficient, scalable processes and workflows for the newly established Performance & Operations team
Compile and analyze weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual performance reports to inform future strategy and drive marketing effectiveness
Establish and maintain benchmarks for key marketing metrics such as CPM, CTR, ROAS, conversion rates, and other relevant performance indicators
Lead and mentor a team of marketing professionals including directors and managers focused on e-commerce growth, audience engagement, and creative/digital execution
Collaborate with product marketing directors to ensure cohesive strategy across publishing categories
Identify emerging digital marketing opportunities and technologies to maintain competitive advantage
Drive operational excellence through process improvement, resource optimization, and strategic planning
Translate complex marketing data into actionable insights for executive leadership
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Work Experience:
8+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 4 years in leadership roles
Demonstrated success driving growth through digital marketing and retail channels
Experience managing email marketing programs, social media strategies, and influencer/content creator partnerships
Proven track record building marketing operations and processes from the ground up
Experience establishing performance measurement frameworks and reporting systems
Background in managing multi-channel marketing strategies and teams
Experience with budget management and resource allocation in a matrix organization
Publishing, content marketing, or related media fields background preferred
Ability to interpret data using established analytics and reporting tools to understand campaign performance and create actionable programs on social platforms, while educating senior leadership.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field
Master's degree or relevant certifications a plus (MBA, Digital Marketing certifications, etc.)
Knowledge:
Deep understanding of e-commerce platforms, particularly Amazon advertising and marketplace dynamics
Comprehensive knowledge of digital marketing channels including email marketing, social media, and influencer partnerships
Expertise in analytics tools and performance metrics across multiple digital platforms
Expertise in marketing operations and process development methodologies
Current awareness of media trends, content discovery patterns, and audience engagement strategies
Understanding of SEO, metadata optimization, and digital content distribution
Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with publishing industry workflows and book marketing best practices
Understanding of Christian theology and contemporary practice
Knowledge of markets for Bibles, academic, and reflective resources, including customer segments and purchase journeys
Skills:
Strategic thinking with ability to balance short-term results with long-term vision
Exceptional analytical capabilities and data interpretation
Process design and implementation expertise
Strong leadership presence with ability to influence across organizational boundaries
