Summary:
The Sr Safety Director will report directly to the VP of Safety & Risk Management and collaborate with the Safety Department to complete initiatives to ensure that Fessler & Bowman is compliant and innovative. As the Sr Safety Director, you will be responsible for leading our project teams to coordinate and ensure field safety for all job sites and facilities. The Sr Safety Director plans, coordinates, and executes safety responsibilities as specified in project safety plans and the Fessler & Bowman safety manual. The Sr. Safety Director is experienced with developing, implementing and monitoring the objectives, procedures and metrics relating to the strategic safety goals for the organization. This position is involved in leading and managing the work of a cross-functional and cross-regional safety team and performs essential duties and responsibilities independently. The Sr Safety Director must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong organization, communication, leadership and client service skills. With support from the VP of Safety & Risk Management, this position is a champion for the Company safety program. The primary function of the Sr Safety Director is to coordinate and manage all project safety responsibilities and effectively implement, execute, maintain and document all safety efforts at any size, scope or type of project. Key Roles of the Sr Safety Director:
· Provides health and safety leadership along with direction to projects
· Works collaboratively with the team and leadership to cultivate the Fessler & Bowman Safety Culture focusing on behavior, attitudes, predictive analytics, consistency, communication and leadership
· Educates and promotes safety among team members and subcontrators. Provides recommendations for safety related education and development
· Investigate all injuries, accidents, and near-misses; this includes going to the actual job site, acting as the primary point person for both the people involved in the accident/injury and the owner/customer, etc.
· Acts as lead crisis and incident manager, ensuring that safety-related incidents and emergencies are managed
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Develop and support the F&B safety committee.
· Develop and coordinate the company’s safety programs, safety training curriculum and schedule in conjunction with field operations and workforce development.
· Create site-specific safety plans for each new job, ensuring that the plan conforms to the Owner & CM requirements, as applicable.
· Conduct a root cause analysis on any accidents or near misses on-site and communicate key information to all PM’s and Superintendents as soon as possible after the incident.
· Support the estimating function by reviewing the GC/CM safety manuals and project owner requirements and summarizing any items that could cause issues.
· Continuously modify JHA’s/Pre-Task Plans including reading, reviewing, observing, and comparing actual work methods to the current plan.
· Create, distribute, and mentor the team on lessons learned.
· Conduct regular scheduled and unscheduled job site safety audits, including walking job sites with Superintendents/Foremen.
· Attend field VP Level 10’s to provide support and guidance on safety-related concerns.
· Provide regular reporting on safety statistics and metrics.
· Communicate with F&B onsite subcontractors to ensure they are following safety protocols and understand how to report any unsafe actions/conditions.
· Develop close working relationships with fellow safety professionals (ex: MITA, AGC, MIOSHA).
· Solving problems, as they arise, by using available knowledge and resources, including association safety resources, safety colleagues with other contractors and construction managers, and internet and/or technical guides.
· Create a budget in conjunction with the VP of Safety & Risk Management and manage safety equipment, PPE, and applicable vendors.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Construction Management?or equivalent experience and training.
· 12 – 15 years in construction safety and a general knowledge of the construction industry.
· A background in construction and general knowledge of the risks and challenges of heavy civil, self-perform contracting.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
· Problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.
· The ability to read, write and speak English.
· Current OSHA 500 authorized trainer.
· Current American Red Cross Instructor.
Travel:
This position requires travel up to 35%. Fessler & Bowman will compensate for travel when applicable.
Work Environment:
As the Sr Safety Director, you will be subject to various work environments. Work environments can include, but are not limited to: high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor settings. The employee will frequently be required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel.
