Description
Under the supervision of the Facilities Coordinator, the maintenance technician performs general and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair activities related to City buildings, libraries, pools, City parks, public restrooms, the public works garage, and other related areas.
Essential Job Functions
Participates in the City's Community Service Program and works with and alongside workers when they are available.
Participates in the general maintenance and repair of City buildings, libraries, pools, City parks, public restrooms, the public works complex and other related areas.
Removes recycling materials in facilities throughout the community
Stocks supplies, moves delivered items
Patches drywall, paints, conducts minor electrical, plumbing, and appliance repairs,repairs/replaces fixtures/furnishings, changes light bulbs, and replaces ballasts
Vacuums, sweeps, cleans carpets, removes right of way debris and animals, sets traffic counters and snow removal.
Completes timesheets and maintains daily work logs of projects completed and the equipment, vehicles, and materials used
Responds to inquiries and requests constructively, refers complaints to the assigned
Supervisor and represents the department in a positive manner. Adheres to all applicable safety procedures while operating equipment and tools, working with chemicals or electrical sources, accessing confined spaces, and while working in other dangerous situations. Participates in safety training as necessary
Utilizes tools and equipment including but not limited to power tools, hand tools, pressure washers, and paint sprayers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High school diploma or equivalent
State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment
Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing
Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, City officials, professional contacts, community leaders, the media, and the public
Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities
Basic skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and other related software
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Three or more years of experience in custodial and facility maintenance and/or knowledge of general building/facility maintenance
Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of City buildings, libraries, pools, City parks, public restrooms, public works garage, and other related areas

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors. The office setting environment has a controlled climate where they sit and work on a computer, communicate by telephone, email, or in person, and move around the office to travel to other locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The outdoor environment requires work to take place through the variation of weather events and temperatures.

Sick Leave
Part-time employees sick leave accrual is prorated based on the number of hours an employee works and applied to the full-time employees accrual of 8 hours of sick leave per month.
Vacation Leave
Part-time employees paid vacation accrual is prorated based on the number of hours an employee works and applied to the full-time vacation schedule. Based upon seniority full-time employees accrue up to 5 weeks of vacation per year.
Holidays
Part-time employees receive holiday pay for each recognized holiday they are scheduled to work. The City recognizes 11 holidays per year.
Retirement Plan Contributions
Part-time employees may contribute towards a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan or a Roth IRA Plan to invest funds for retirement.
Recreation Discounts
Part-time employees and their immediate family members may take advantage of various discounts through the Parks & Recreation Department.
