Job Description SummaryThe job scope is to ensure an effective working team, a safe working environment, quality product and to maintain continuous operation in accordance with customer orders in an efficient manner. Job Description
As a Machine Operator at American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. ("AAM") you will be responsible for maintaining the machinery necessary to perform a specialized task, troubleshooting and making adjustments.
Follow simple process print dimensions and tolerances
Accountable for changing or indexing cutting tools (Inserting)
Follow tool path drawings or other documentation necessary in maintaining part specifications, especially at tool change
Measure part features using basic hand gages (i.e. micrometers, calipers, etc.)
Demonstrate ability to complete off-setting the X and Z axis to bring part dimensions into specification after tool changes
Maintain responsibility for part quality and machine operational checks
Replenish coolant and oil in all machines in cell; Fill work stocker and/or helical
Maintain production and scrap records as required, through Plex
Perform general housekeeping on and around machine; Follow 5S practices
Communicate effectively to team leads and supervisor(s) regularly, keeping them updated on production activities and progresses along with any issues that may arise
Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Able to stand/walk for 8-12 hours
Frequent lifting/moving 5-50 pounds
Frequent pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling
Occasional hot indoor conditions (Summer months)
Occasional extreme cold conditions (Winter months)
Occasional outside work
Moderately loud noise levels
Wearing proper PPE; including, but not limited to, steel toe/composite safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses and bump cap/helmet
Required Skills and Education
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
Basic math skills. (i.e. addition and subtraction, working with decimals in both inches and metrics)
Ability to work daily and weekend overtime as scheduled
Must have an understanding of the manufacturing processes, daily operations, material handling, quality criteria, safety and troubleshooting ability
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Good oral and written communication skills
Strong level of planning and organizational abilities
High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
Working experience with business-related computer systems including Microsoft Office products
Must adhere to all safety requirements
Must show willingness to demonstrate S4 principles in daily job duties
Must show attention to detail, maintain a productive attitude and have willingness to take the extra steps needed to ensure the job is done correctly
PREFERRED:
3-5 years of production operations experience, particularly in high volume manufacturing
Experience in automotive, forging or similar industries
Strong knowledge of CNC production machine operation, safety and quality requirements
Operating knowledge of Plexus
Familiarity with union environment
