A Tile Setter / Laborer assists experienced tile finishers with various tasks during tile installation, including preparing surfaces, mixing and applying materials, cutting and shaping tiles, and cleaning up the work area. They learn essential skills and gain experience under the guidance of a certified tile finisher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Assisting in preparing surfaces for tile installation, including grinding, leveling, and cleaning.
- Material Handling: Mixing and applying adhesives, grout, and other materials under supervision.
- Tile Cutting and Shaping: Learning to cut and shape tiles to fit various spaces and obstacles.
- Tool Usage: Using hand and power tools under the guidance of a tile finisher.
- Clean-up and Organization: Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Training and Development: Participating in on-the-job training to improve skills and knowledge.
- Material Delivery: Delivering and organizing materials and tools to the work site.
- Quality Control: Assisting in ensuring proper alignment and spacing of tiles.
Required Skills:
- Physical Stamina: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, bend, and maneuver to assist in the installation of material.
- Basic Math Skills: For measuring and cutting tiles.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with a tile finisher.
- Attention to Detail: To ensure accurate tile placement and grout application.
- Familiarity with Construction Tools: An understanding of common tools used in tile installation.
