Description
We are seeking a Controller to lead and manage the financial operations for our esteemed distribution client, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position will focus on ensuring financial integrity, implementing best practices, and aligning financial initiatives with the company's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader, skilled at fostering efficient financial operations and a collaborative team environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Ensure the protection of company assets by developing and enforcing strong internal control measures and conducting regular audits.
Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivables, payroll, fixed assets, and cost accounting, to ensure accuracy and productivity.
Prepare and deliver detailed financial reports to the Director of Finance and stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
Provide financial analysis to support decision-making for ventures, projects, capital expenditures, and product costing.
Collaborate with department leaders to align financial plans with the organization's strategic goals.
Act as a primary liaison with external auditors, banks, insurance agents, and other financial institutions.
Lead the development and implementation of improved accounting procedures to enhance departmental efficiency.
Manage and mentor the accounting team, offering performance feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Monitor departmental workflows and recommend process enhancements to improve resource utilization and maintain accuracy.
Advise on non-routine financial transactions and ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards.
Requirements - A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles.
Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage 100 and Flowcast.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including fixed assets, amortization, and expense accruals.
Experience with month-end close processes and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial data and provide actionable insights.
Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
