Job Description
Under the supervision of the Children’s Special Health Care Services/Child Lead, Nurse Family Partnership, or Maternal Infant Health Program Supervisor, the Public Health Nurse (PHN) addresses community needs by defining, planning, implementing, and evaluating the public health nursing services to be rendered primarily to families beneath the income threshold for WIC. The PHN provides comprehensive and professional public health nursing assessments and services to children, pregnant persons, families, and/or the community under one of the following programs: Children’s Special Health Care Services, Child Lead, Maternal Infant Health Program, or Nurse Family Partnership. The PHN may also perform functions in aid to specific programs such as the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) and / or the Child Death Review (CDR).
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Licensure: Possession of a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.Experience: At least 2 year of nursing experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Possession of a vehicle and current auto insurance or other dependable travel throughout Ingham County.
Possession of valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan, or equivalent.
Possession of a valid BLS certificate.
Physical/Technological Requirements:
Ability to access office files.
Ability to enter and retrieve information from computer.
Ability to access charts, other records, and documents of the department.
Ability to operate copy machines and other office equipment.
Stooping, kneeling, and crouching in order to perform assessments and/or testing.
Requires the ability to travel throughout the county to various locations and complete home visits.
May require the ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Basic knowledge and application of Microsoft Office

Working Conditions:
Works in office and approved alternative off-site locations in the county.
Risk of exposure to communicable diseases, blood, and other bodily fluids.
This position is provided with personal protection equipment, which should be utilized based on nursing clinical judgement to minimize risks.
