Position Summary
Supports the school district by assisting in various capacities to ensure the best possible learning experience is being provided for all children in a safe and secure environment while maintaining confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities
(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)
Assist the district in providing services in any of the paraprofessional/monitor job classifications, as needed.
When servicing students in any paraprofessional/monitor job classification will be responsible in performing the duties and responsibilities of that role.
Communicates with community, staff, and students to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, while maintaining confidentiality.
Health Aide
Dispenses and administers prescription and non-prescription medicines for routine and emergency uses as ordered by a physician.
May be required to administer medications or perform procedures other than orally.
Check blood glucose levels of diabetic students; responds by following diabetic plan provided by physician and parent, which may include injecting insulin. Maintain logs of glucose levels.
Maintains records of all medicines, accounts for prescription drugs, insures that medicines are maintained in locked storage, and send notices to parents to pick up medicine at the end of the school year.
Administers first aid treatment for cuts, scrapes, bruises, bumps, etc; completes necessary incident reports for injuries occurring during school hours.
Assesses condition and provides appropriate health care treatment for other minor illnesses or injuries including providing appropriate treatment for asthmatic students, allergic reactions, etc.
Assesses possible contagious disease or illnesses such as lice, pink eye, etc according to district policies and guidelines.
Provides health related restroom assistance to students as needed.
Maintains the working structure of the school clinic by maintaining supplies, phone lists, records, etc.
Participates in health care training programs as necessary.
May accompany diabetic and/or wheel chair bound students on field trips to assist them with restrooms, carrying supplies, pushing the wheelchair, boarding and off-boarding the bus, and responding the health concerns.
Special Ed Parapro
Assist one-on-one, small groups or classroom with students under the supervision of the teacher as directed.
Assist teacher with completing academic tasks.
Assist in engaging student with instructional activities developed by the teacher i.e. reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills, etc.
Maintain behavior and utilize behavior intervention when necessary.
Assist children with toileting, as needed.
Familiarize yourself with individual student requirements.
Lunchroom Monitor
Supervises and monitors students in the lunchroom and playground before, during, and after lunchtime.
Ensures that students comply with school rules and communicates with students to monitor behavior while in the lunchroom.
Assist students with opening food items, microwave student lunches, handing out napkins, straws, eating utensils, etc.
Wash tables during and after lunchtime.
Must be on time at the lunchroom.
Crossing Guard
Supervises and monitors students as they cross streets and school grounds while walking to and from school.
Stops traffic when necessary.
Ensures that students comply with school rules and communicates with students to monitor behavior while crossing streets.
Maintain a safe flow of traffic on and off school grounds where students are present.
Must be on time at your job post.
Preschool Parapro
Assist the classroom under the supervision of the teacher as directed; duties may include crafts, games, stories, lunchtime, etc.
Assist teacher in planning and organizing daily events.
Assist children that are not toilet trained, as needed.
Monitor children on the playground.
Locker Room Monitor
Supervises and monitors students in the locker room and hallways outside the locker room.
Ensures that students comply with school rules and communicates with students to monitor behavior while in the locker room.
Assist students with combinations on lockers.
Monitors security of the locker rooms.
Hall Monitor
Supervises and monitors students in the hallways before, during, and after the school day.
Ensures that students comply with school rules and communicates with students to monitor behavior while in the hallways.
Must be on time.
Assist and monitor the locking and unlocking of doors.
