The Michigan Milk Producers Association is looking for an experienced Laboratory Technician. As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible and accountable for the testing and production. You will ensure the safe, accurate and timely testing and production of products.

The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) – established in 1916 – is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., MMPA serves dairy farmers throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana, employing approximately 625 people in four states. In addition to a cheese plant in Indiana called the Middlebury Cheese Company, and a dairy product plant in Ohio called Superior Dairy, MMPA operates two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan. Products made at MMPA’s plants include fluid milk, cheese, ultra-filtered milk, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream, and condensed skim milk.

Schedule:
- 11 AM through 9 PM (Mon-Tuesday, Thurs-Fri)
Job Responsibilities:
- Have thorough knowledge of product flow
- Reading and understanding written procedures, manuals or the methodology of testing
- Operate dairy testing equipment
- Perform chemistry and Microbiological testing
- Follow good manufacturing practice regulations, which require gloves, hairnets, shoe covers and uniforms in working areas (personal cleanliness is necessary to prevent product contamination)
- Perform all duties and assignments in a safe and efficient manner, as stipulated by management
- Awareness of and compliance with all HACCP, USDA, FDA, SQF, MDA, GMP, and Food Safety Standards
- Completion and maintenance of all required logs, records, etc.
- Pass state examinations for certification and comply with all standards
- Perform all lab functions and testing now being performed and future tests, and other duties as and when assigned
- Attend training both on and off site as required and train new operators as necessary; this includes the training of new employees for their initial qualification and refresher training
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Food Science, Animal Science, or related field
- or have successfully completed college courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Math (transcripts required)
- or have three years of professional experience in a food production laboratory
- Must be able to work well with others
- Must have good computer skills
- Have good organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work any shift, weekends, or holidays (our plants operate 24/7)
- Ability to constantly stand/walk and to frequently bend/flex/twist/squat/carry for an 8-hour shift
- Repetitive movements and tasks
- Ability to lift, move, slide, and situate 55 pounds routinely
- Safely handle cleaning products and chemicals
- Ability to read and understand standards operating procedures in a team environment
- Prior experience in manufacturing or dairy is preferred
