POSITION: Mechanic I
LOCATION: Transportation
REPORTS TO: Liz Richardson, Transportation Director
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree/Certification:
High School graduate, experience as an auto mechanic and truck mechanic, certification for work on diesel and gas engines, physically able to pass test to drive school buses, and the ability to lift a minimum of 135 pounds' waist high. CDL, P and S Endorsements, and DOT Certification required.
Job Scope:
Responsible for the maintenance, service, and recording of vehicle data. Responsible for the maintenance of all school busses, maintenance/fleet vehicles, tractors, trucks, snowplows, snow blowers, golf carts, etc. by keeping all in operating condition in conformity with school, local, county, state and federal requirements.
Job Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills Necessary to Perform Tasks:
- Maintain a maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles and perform the preventative maintenance according to the schedule.
- Perform repairs and supervise repairs and improvements on all fleet vehicles.
- Advise in the purchase of fuel, fuel supplies, parts, and tools.
- Maintain all vehicles used to transport students in accordance with the standards established by the Michigan State Police Department, Michigan Department of Transportation, and Michigan Department of Education.
- Prepare monthly reports of service and maintenance activities for the Director of Transportation.
- Prepare an annual report on the condition of the fleet and make recommendations for the replacement of vehicles based on the service records.
- Demonstrate high standards of safety in all work connected areas.
- Assist and make recommendations for service in the rescue of stalled or disabled school vehicles,
- Must be responsible for protecting school system property and securing all building and yards under transportation control.
- Must attend all required schools and stay certified in all State required areas to maintain classifications.
- Must be able to gas weld and electric weld.
- Prepare inventory reports, work orders, and spreadsheets and be familiar with Prolink Software.
- Must work well with others.
- Responsible to clean and organize shop and parts rooms.
- Drive as a sub only when needed.
- Perform job-related tasks beyond your designated work schedule due to emergency break downs of fleet vehicles and equipment and snow removal.
- Perform all other tasks as directed by supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time position, 12-months per year, willing to work additional hours as needed.
