GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for consultation of compliance and regulatory standards for all aspects of Disability Management including FMLA, ADA, and coordination of returning employees to work. Conducts assessments by using case management skills to monitor and evaluate employees with restrictions. Establishes and facilitates communication with individuals, departments, business units, insurance carrier, workers compensation administrator, and others who have an integral relationship with the IDMS. Works closely with the Manager Integrated Disability Management and the Corporate Benefit Team to provide support as needed.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consulting:
Serves as a liaison between the employee, third party administrator/claims manager, HFHS benefits administration team, and HR representatives regarding LOA processes, policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state laws.
Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization and ensure management understands the company's responsibilities during a person's absence or need for an accommodation.
Coordinates and oversees Transitional Work Program (TWP) and the Return-to-Work Program (RTW).
Act as a primary contact to the employee. Ensure that appropriate and timely follow-up information is provided to employees in response to requests for information.
Provides regularly scheduled Disability reports to monitor organizational needs.
Actively utilizes continuous quality improvement processes to achieve desired results.
Confers with leadership as appropriate, on disability management/employee relations issues, matters of particular sensitivity, risk, or compliance management.
Coaching/Mentoring:
Will coach, advise, or provide disability management training to leaders with the goal to increase their leadership competencies/expertise.
Drive management's ownership for managing employees with disabilities.
Builds effective working relationships with leaders and employees pertaining to Disability Management issues.
Change Management:
Provide on-going updates to leadership and employees regarding Disability Management initiatives.
Assists with the creation and implementation of new and existing HR policies and procedures pertaining to Disability Management.
Manages project management resources for Disability Management initiatives and all other projects as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
Responsible for working independently on special projects that require extensive problem-solving skills and commitment for their completion.
Assists with the preparations for the annual My Choice Rewards open enrollment to include the testing and validation of programs.
Works closely with a cross functional team including Legal pertaining to EEOC/DOL complaint.
Responsible for the CTO Donation program at Henry Ford Health.
Assists, as needed and appropriate, with Talent Selection for employees who are reassigned to vacant positions due to a disability.
Guides employees to the HF University to assist them in matching key talents to appropriate jobs if their job is no longer available.
Attends and actively participates in conferences, educational programs/workshops; applies acquired knowledge in daily practice.
Partner with New York Life regarding medical information and understand the job description and the essential functions of the position.
Assists in ADA Interactive process which includes, but not limited to
Eligibility;
Validate the input of the employee and discuss options;
Properly document all reasonable accommodations received;
Work with the employees, managers, and HR Business partners to begin accommodation;
Compose and provide timely distribution of responses letters, phone calls, emails, etc. from HFHS during the interactive process;
Monitor the employee to ensure the accommodation was effective and continues to be effective;
Work with employees returning from a leave of absence to find a new position within the system;
Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Health, Wellness, or a related field required or Seven (7) years of leave administration experience in lieu of degree.
Health-care benefits experience preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of applicable experience in human resources, business operations, or management. Experience in a healthcare setting, desirable.
Strong knowledge of the management of disability, absence, and return to work programs.
Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state leave laws and regulations such as HIPPA, FMLA, ERISA, USERRA, ADAAA, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Strong verbal, written and listening communications skills.
Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to think through process improvements.
Strong customer service skills.
Strong interpersonal, coaching and influencing skills.
Demonstrated relationship-building skills.
Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information.
