Role Summary
As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Dimensional Engineering, you will be a key technical leader for the team responsible for supporting the Dimensional strategy for Rivian's new products. This position will be managing measurement data system and measurement strategies/Tools for Drive Unit, Body Structure, General Assembly, Interiors
and Exteriors, working cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineers, Design Release Engineers, and Supplier Development Engineers to ensure successful product launches at Normal, IL and our new greenfield facility in East Atlanta, GA, as well as overseeing Design Validation Builds in the metro Detroit area.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Development
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best dimensional practice for process, vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve dimensional accuracy
Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on quality activities
General and Task Management
Support Supplier Development Team on part quality data management.
Review part tolerance call outs for supplier components as released with RFQ packages to suppliers.
Development of Data Analysis Dashboards. ( Hex preferred )
Assure that all buyoff criteria is upheld for all parts/assemblies through final approval, to include but not limited to: Certification, R&R, EC Level, part quality.
Review and Follow-up with suppliers through all phases of fixture design and construction
Drive dimensional controls and tolerance discussions into the basics of all design across the organization
Support vehicle development and design team to ensure proper GD&T is specified for supplier parts and planned for in assembly of components.
Iterate on component design with design and release engineers based on assembly process and dimensional layouts to ensure a repeatable vehicle build with proper part fits and panel adjustments
Assure that all buyoff criteria is upheld for all parts/assemblies through final approval, to include but not limited to: Certification, R&R, EC Level, part quality.
Work as a champion of good, fundamental design across the vehicle
Work upfront in the design process to develop and assess feasibility of design targets for key vehicle sub-systems.
Cross-functional development and documentation of assembly datum schemes and in process dimensional specification requirements to ensure robust product manufacture.
Development of key product maturation tools to be used in conjunction with quality loops to drive towards product excellence during new product introduction.
Root Cause launch issues in a data driven way.
Participate in Virtual and production Build events.
Knowledge of an automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices
Understanding of various methods of component forming and assembly and associated part or assembly tolerances
Experience with component specification standards and ANSI standards for GD&T
Ability to review a design and process and provide suggestions to improve the repeatability of design
Understanding and implementation of part quality improvements.
Strong skills with common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, database, etc).

Requirements
BS or higher in engineering.
5+ years' experience
CAD & GD&T proficiency - CATIA preferred.
Experience running Fixtures / Gage Design Reviews, including Development phase, troubleshoot repeatability issues, Build and Buyoff ( GR / GRR )
Basic Knowledge of 1D and 3D tolerance stack analysis.
Passion for problem solving with the ability to methodically root cause issues by following a first principles approach.
Ability to make data driven decisions and demonstrate good analytical skills, experience with minitab/JMP or other statistical software beneficial.
Proficiency with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gages (MSA) and the ability to improve and document our methods for completing these tasks.
