BIW & Mixed Materials Manager
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Manager for theBIW(Body-In-White)& Mixed Materials Team of theClosures Engineering Design Department, one whowould have a wide breadth of automotive experience with the ability to lead the design and development of numerous vehicles that meet or exceed our local customer requirements from concept through lifecycle production while simultaneously developing new technologies and adhering to the highest safety standards.
TheBIW & Mixed Materials Manager would support and execute a strong vision, strategy, and business plan for a growing and diverse team, lead seven direct reports, and provide an expansion plan by the end of the year, 2025.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Create, communicate, and execute the Closures Engineering Design Department's plan, laid out by the department's SeniorManager, which supportsthe visions, goals, and business objectives set for HATCI, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), and the VE (Vehicle Engineering) Division
Business Management: Successfully meet all KPIs concerning the following areas: program timing, cost and quality improvement, intellectual property, budget, personnel development, corporate culture, etc.Lead tasks and projects to support the team's work plan, ensuring all goals and budget spending are met for the BIW & Mixed Materials' R&D budget.
Team Management:Develop goals and objectives for all direct reports.Manage/direct Engineers in daily activities that affect the over-arching team-related goals concerning the Hyundai brand(s). Ensure the section's plan and budget align with the vision of the VE Division. Ensure administrative functions, such as purchasing requests, timecards, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.,are met on a timely basis.
Vehicle Development: Be a subject matter expert on automotive closure BIW design, processes regarding manufacturing and proto/production, and testing procedures for closure BIW system designs, especially concerning the department's focused efforts surrounding EVs and light-duty trucks. Ensure vehicle developmentprocesses arefollowed from concept to post-production, satisfying all customer requirements. Lead competitive benchmarking,conduct detailed engineering cost/weight analysis, performdrawing release, executeengineering orders, meetsafety/regulatory targets, etc. Also, theBIW & Mixed Materials Manager would lead their team on releasing responsibilities concerning 2D & 3D drawings released via the Closures Engineering Design Department, using the checker approval status in the Hyundai EO (Engineering Order) system.
Life Cycle Support: Support manufacturing-relatedand production life cycle activities concerning Hyundai's Americas' 5 plants (located in Georgia, Alabama, Mexico, and Brazil), including assessing product-launch metrics, seeking continuous vehicle improvement, and suggesting cost and mass reductions
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Advocate for internal and external customers. Support collaboration with regional affiliates (e.g., sales and marketing, manufacturing, quality, etc.)and Korean counterpart(s). Actively engaging with all levels, including Engineers, Managers, Presidents, and C-Suite, building effective relationships with all. Interface and co-work with other teams within VE, HATCI (i.e.,Project Management, Product Planning, Materials Development, Safety Integration, and Regulation & Certification), and its affiliates (e.g., sales and marketing and manufacturing) to provide necessary support with vehicle testing, development, clinics, etc.
Technology Assessment and Development: Support new technology assessment and development by contributing to technical road maps and strategies with the goal of implementation to vehicle production, liaisingwith multiple testing and development labs, and assisting with new technology research and adoption projects
Perform other duties as assigned
Travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degreein an engineering-related field
12-15 years in automotive vehicle design and development with increasing levels of project and team management
Knowledgeable about vehicle design and solving development and quality issues (i.e., warranty, IQS, and plant and field Issues)
Demonstrated experience and expertise in automotive areas, such as closures moving, closures mechanisms, CAE, testing, quality, and production launch
Excellentoral and written communication skills
Familiarity in CATIA, ENOVIA V6, 3d Experience, CAE, or similar systems
Excellentproject management skills
Flexible in program and process changes; Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is willing to make late changes to satisfy customer needs
Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Exceptionalself-management, time-management, and organization skills
Ability towork in a culturally diverse team environment
Show a willingness to learn new ways of interacting andprogram processing
Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degreein an engineering-related field
3+ years managing an engineering department or section
