Position: Teacher Consultant (Autism Spectrum Disorder 0.6 FTE & START Project 0.4 FTE)
Effective Date: 2025-2026 School Year
Terms of Employment: Wage and benefits to be in accordance with the Master Agreement for Certified Staff.
Job Summary - Under the direction of the administrator and following Montcalm Area Intermediate School District policies, this position supports neurodiverse students, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), by coordinating and implementing evidence-based practices to promote integration into the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Responsibilities include participating in identification and placement decisions, collaborating on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and interventions, and assisting with specialized materials and devices to enhance student outcomes across the LRE continuum.
Certifications/Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and three to five years of teaching experience in special education programs/services.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) or a willingness to seek this endorsement with an existing endorsement in other special education area. Knowledge and experience in programming for students with ASD of various ages.
- Meet all of the requirements of R. 340.1782 of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
- Additional qualifications and alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Participate in IEP team decisions, assist with educational placement, and attend IEPT meetings for students with ASD.
- Support staff during the initial evaluation process for students suspected of having ASD.
- Support ISD teams and LEA teams to implement universal support and assist with specialized materials, devices, and evidence-based practices to enhance student education.
- Develop and model implementation of universal behavior management systems, instructional strategies, and communication programs tailored to individual needs.
- Serve as a resource for teachers, support district personnel in best practices, and collaborate on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to promote LRE integration.
- Foster collaboration with families and stakeholders to address student needs and provide holistic development support.
- Provide training in various formats, participate in the START project’s Regional Collaborative Network, and attend relevant state-level conferences.
- Share and/or present relevant ASD research and oversee the START Coaches Series for building level coaches.
- Update and present the START series resources and topics to countywide participants.
- Meet the needs of ISD programs and/or school districts by obtaining necessary materials or equipment and addressing requests with flexibility.
- Write and manage all aspects of the START Grant.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Special Education.
