GENERAL SUMMARY:
The physical therapy residency is a program that provides clinical and didactic educational opportunities provided by the Henry Ford Health system, designed to
advance the knowledge and clinical skills of a physical therapist working in the acute care specialty practice area.
The physical therapy (PT) resident performs PT evaluation; diagnoses movement dysfunction; and uses interventions to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability, working both independently and under direct mentorship as per curricular requirements.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs patient assessment, treatment, discharge planning and collaboration with other health care providers.
Documents patient care and billing information timely and in accordance with department standards.
Communicates with co-workers, and other professionals, including physicians and nurses as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
Functions as a team member in care of patients and in mentoring with other staff.
Delegates aspects of patient care to support staff per PT/PTA MI Licensure Administrative Rules providing necessary communication and supervision.
Maintains clinical productivity standards.
Advances technical clinical expertise through ongoing clinical education.
Participates in in-services, staff meetings, quality activities and aspects of program development.
Maintains awareness of patient safety issues within the clinic and in the use of equipment. Assists in the maintenance of patient care equipment as needed.
Maintains patient confidentiality according to Henry Ford Health HIPAA policies.
Maintains adherence to all applicable Federal/State law/regulations, APTA standards of practice, MI Licensure requirements, the Henry Ford Health Integrity/
Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, as well as all other Henry Ford Health policies and procedures.
If requested, represents Henry Ford Health at community and professional functions.
Participates in clinical education programs as approved by the Site Coordinator of Clinical Education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Requires Master's or Doctorate degree acquired from a Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited program.
Requires current State of Michigan licensure or be eligible to obtain licensure prior to established deadline; deadline is established annually by the residency program and published within the application process, generally 3 months prior to the start of the cohort. Failure to obtain licensure by the due date will result in forfeiture of applicant's entry into the program.
Current CPR certification required.
