Job Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Associate is responsible for assisting with EHS&S (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability) programs in adherence to local, state, and federal regulations. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with teams of people in projects and implementation of sustainable processes that will improve the health and safety of our employees across the site. The individual in this role is a generalist and may be responsible for multiple programs across the EHS&S discipline. The role is an on-site position at the Mattawan, Michigan location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Update specific EHSS programs for compliance with state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and other regulatory programs as necessary. Maintain reporting and documentation standards for these agencies and review new regulatory standards and make compliance recommendations.
Provide safety and environmental training to employees. Assist with maintenance and upkeep of group training manuals and training records.
Assist EHSS staff with inspections of the facility for compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as applicable. Advise EHSS staff on safety and environmental issues and recommend solutions to address deficiencies.
Assist with managing the hazardous waste (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act - RCRA) and medical waste disposal functions, to include, but not limited to waste profiling, permitting, manifesting, and record keeping and reporting.
Assist management team in emergency response and function as an EHSS Emergency Coordinator for 24-hour incident response. Assist in the investigation of injuries resulting in lost time claims and/or safety violations and property damage. Make recommendations for corrective action.
Serve as member of Safety Committee(s) across multi-department teams.
Provide regulatory guidance on EHSS issues to staff across multiple different departments and disciplines.
Explain procedures and produce written documentation, as proof of compliance, to clients and federal and state investigators. Assist with communications to regulatory agencies and client inspections on EHSS-related matters.
Assist with maintenance of facility permits, licenses, and compliance reports to federal, local and state regulatory authorities; may obtain necessary licenses to function as wastewater and underground storage tank operator.
Assist with development of departmental budget and development of EHSS programs and metrics.

Job Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: One or more years related experience in EHSS, preferably in a laboratory or scientific organization.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
Demonstrated ability to interpret/apply required federal or state regulations and manage multiple/changing priorities with many interruptions.
Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential duties, including the ability to learn a validated system
Demonstrated ability to problem solve, manage projects, make quick decisions, communicate decisions effectively, and lead site staff in a growing, changing environment
Strong time management and organizational skills required
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization
Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts; sometimes on short notice
Ability to work under specific time constraints
Compensation Data
The pay range for this position is $66,000 - $71,000K USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
