Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University is seeking applications for an assistant/associate teaching professor. Primary consideration will be for applicants at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, although applicants with the experience and accomplishments commensurate with a higher rank may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor.
Instructional-track faculty in Nursing are primarily responsible for the teaching and supervision of nursing students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Primary teaching responsibilities will include the development and delivery of courses in the areas of Maternal-Child Nursing. Other teaching responsibilities will consist of Nursing Fundamentals, and Medical-Surgical Nursing or may be assigned based on need and as appropriate.
Additional academic duties for all instructional-track faculty include participation in assessment activities and committee assignments.

Responsibilities
1. Instruction of classes, simulation, and clinical components as assigned.
2. Direct and indirect oversight of students in diverse clinical settings, including direct, individualized supervision of patient care, physical assessments, nursing interventions, and the administration of medications.
3. Coordination of clinical, lab, simulation, and course assignments in collaboration with the faculty team within the academic level assigned.
4. Evaluation of students in class and clinical/lab settings.
5. Regular communications with students regarding progress.
6. Maintenance of student academic records.
7. Uphold expected course outcomes.
8. Participate in program assessment activities, committee assignments, and academic advising.
9. Uphold high standards in teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.
10. Advise, lead, supervise, motivate, and mentor students.
11. Perform various administrative duties as required or assigned.
12. Maintain and safeguard confidential data under HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
13. Adhere to university policies and procedures and maintain faculty expectations as required by the university, Michigan Board of Nursing, and accreditation.
14. Maintain current clinical competency and knowledge.
15. Completes all campus and clinical site orientation and trainings.
16. Facilitate and/or conduct student orientation at clinical sites.
17. Be familiar with and comply with clinical site agency policies and procedures.
18. Work collegially and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.
19. Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning and applying continuous improvement strategies to everyday work.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
1. Master's Degree in nursing or related field with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing received from an accredited nursing program; RNs holding a BSN and enrolled in a graduate nursing program will also be considered.
2. Unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
3. Current BLS certification.
Required Experience
Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience and a minimum of 1 year in Maternal Newborn or Pediatric Nursing, or as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
1. Doctoral degree in nursing, education, or related field.
2. Previous teaching experience in academic, clinical settings, and online.

1. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
2. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
3. Meet the physical demands of teaching in a clinical environment for extended periods

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom/lab setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Work will also be performed in a medical/clinical environment. Clinical and lab environments may involve exposure to operating circumstances that require following standard and prescribed safety precautions.
