Description
Under general supervision, plans, organizes and implements recreational and other activities and is responsible for the operations of a municipal recreation center.
Examples of Duties
Plans and conducts a comprehensive year-round recreation program for a municipal recreation center.
Supervises assigned professionals, other recreation personnel engaged in conducting recreation center and playground activities, and building maintenance personnel.
Ensures that activities are properly conducted and recreational programs function as planned.
Prepares work schedules and instructs subordinates in work activities.
Confers with assigned staff on current programs.
Listens and responds to employee issues.
Consults with and advises individuals, and/or community groups on recreation center use.
Organizes and arranges social functions, clubs, and athletic leagues.
Conducts special activities including, but not limited to, children's parties, community programs, field day events, and basketball and playground ball leagues.
Orders equipment and supplies.
Collects and ensures the security of miscellaneous fees used for recreation center facilities.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Ensures that buildings and grounds are properly cared for.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with specialization in physical education, recreation or a related field of study.
Two years experience in conducting organized recreational activities. One year experience in supervising such activities at a community recreation center.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
