Description
Under general supervision, the Auditor 3 applies professional accounting and auditing knowledge, standards and principles, laws, and regulations while performing functions including, but not limited to: examination and appraisal of financial records, financial and management reports, management controls, policies and practices affecting or reflecting the financial condition and operating results of an activity; analyzing work related to the developing and executing audit policies and programs; conducting activities related to the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse; conducting in-person, telephone, and on-site investigative interviews; preparing audit reports; and recommending corrective action plans . The Auditor 3 position in the Office of the Auditor General is an experienced internal auditor expected to function and perform at an overall higher level than Auditor 2.
Examples of Duties
Conducts internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management systems and operational processes.
Assesses and ensures the city's compliance with applicable laws, regulations and city policies.
Provides City Council and the Administration with accurate and timely reports on financial and operational audit findings, including recommendations for improvement.
Gives independent and objective assessments of agencies operations, financial activity and internal controls.
Proposes recommendations to enhance operational efficiency, effectiveness, and identify other areas of improvement.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk management strategies.
Plans and conducts audits of an entity's financial and operational systems. Establishes audit objectives, obtaining background information, and creating audit procedures.
Analyzes accounting documentation, business data, and other information to evaluate systems and controls.
Prepares and presents reports that document the audit process and reflect the audit results.
Make recommendations to improve internal controls and operational processes.
Communicates audit findings to management and the Auditor General through oral presentations and written reports.
Assists in the training of newly hired staff and less experienced auditors.
Assesses the adequacy of internal controls and provides assessment to the Audit Supervisor and Audit Manager.
Evaluates the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of an entity's operations and systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or a closely related field. Such an education must include at least twenty-four (24) semester credits in coursework of accounting or a related field.
At least three (3) years of work experience involving the examination and evaluation of the accounting, financial, operational, or control records of public agencies, private organizations, or individuals.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
