University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for retail Gift Shop workers.
- Team Lead Gift Shop * Days - 22 hours per week, plus
- Gift Shop Assistant - 18 hours per week
The Gift Shop Assistant is committed to delivering exceptional customer service and creating positive retail experiences for patients, families, staff, and visitors at UMH-West. In this role, the Gift Shop Assistant is responsible for the daily operations of the gift shop including opening and closing procedures, performing all transactions (cash, credit card, payroll deduction) and operating the cash register. Maintain knowledge of merchandise, prices, location of merchandise and cleanliness of gift shop. The Gift Shop Assistant contributes to the overall success of the Gift Shop and UMH-West as a whole.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Team Lead:
- Three (3) years of retail experience including general merchandise display experience required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s or equivalent college education preferred
- Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, solid merchandise knowledge and all other aspects of customer service.
- Ability to accurately operate cash register and provide change, as necessary.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and public.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, vendors and customers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the public.
- General retail knowledge
- Knowledge of cash handling and record keeping standards and practices.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Ability to accurately perform all functions of the job.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Accurate operation of cash register, including all types of payment transactions (cash, credit card and payroll deduction).
- General merchandising (preparation of merchandise for sale, including unpacking merchandise and displaying goods for retail sale; maintenance of merchandise in aesthetically pleasing environment).
- Follow regular cleaning schedule to maintain appearance of gift shop.
- Create a positive retail experience for patients, families, staff, visitors, and all others through in-person, online, and phone interactions.
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and organized store
- Demonstrate excellence and knowledge in products being sold, reflecting our mission and vision.
- Conduct transactions and additional tasks effectively while utilizing theft-prevention techniques and engaging with customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of use industry standards, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
