Shipping Clerk
Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking a Shipping Clerk at our Genesis Seating location in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor
Hours: 7am-3:30pm
SUMMARY:
The Shipping Coordinator assures timely, economical shipment of finished goods to our customers and warehouses with the highest level of customer service in a high stress, fast paced environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Responsible for procuring outbound transportation (truckload and LTL) to ensure on time delivery to customers and outside warehouses both domestically and internationally
- Utilize third-party logistic system to secure transportation from approved providers at agreed upon rates
- Communicate directly with Customers and/or Customer logistics systems for Collect shipment arrangements
- Arrange pickups and negotiate rates directly with common carriers when necessary
- Facilitate the flow of information between Shipping, Manufacturing, QA, Credit, Customer Service and Shipper/Receivers to achieve On-Time, In-Full shipment of orders
- Facilitate resolution of internal discrepancies such as labeling, weights, and pallet numbering prior to shipment
- Verify product dimensions and weights to select shipping method
- Check in trucks and communicate loading instructions.
- Responsible for verifying accuracy of packing lists
- Carries out special shipping instructions as specified by customer service, including expedited shipping
- Furnish Customer Service with order status information as requested
- Participate in resolving freight claims and freight-related customer complaints
- Maintain and file shipping-related records in an orderly fashion
- Emphasize quality and safety in all aspects of the role. Participate in plant safety training and activities in pursuit of Zero Incidents
- Other duties as they develop and are assigned

A few things you’ll need:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Preference will be given to candidates with 2+ years prior experience in transportation planning and freight management in a manufacturing setting
- Capable of problem solving to reduce errors, improve quality and delivery
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-starter and work efficiently under minimal supervision
- Excellent attendance, above average computer skills, and experience with ERP systems.
- Basic math proficiency and the ability to read and write legibly
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Strong, professional communication skills, including ability to work as part of a team and directly
with Customer Services and Customers.
